You are correct: it should not be a big problem in the OpenSPIM software 
because Micro-Manager already supports multiple channels.

Having said that, it is an undertaking that requires Java programming 
skills and the OpenSPIM project has yet to attract more scientists with 
such skills to become stronger. Do you have such skills, or access to 
such a person? If so, I would try to find the time to identify the 
locations in the code that need changes.
