We also experienced those problems when working with a 32-bit Fiji. To
work around the limitations of 32-bit (where effectively only a fraction
of your RAM is accessible due to only 31 bit being available to address
it), we also installed a 64-bit Fiji from http://fiji.sc/ and ran the
fusion there. Maybe that works for you, too?
