Monika,

I'd vote for the Arduino approach too-especially for the built in device adapter for micromanager.  A little bit of mucking about with the adapter would get you full control through the plugin.  I used this approach to integrate an AOTF.

Unless you know someone to write the device adapter for the picard shutter (they provided a dll)...
