Unfortunately, I am also not quite versed in things BigDataViewer myself.

However, there is this fantastic project called Fiji where you can ask
questions on the forum (http://imagej.1557.x6.nabble.com/). The advantage
over mailing someone in private is that you can tap into a much larger
pool of expertise. Well, that is actually only one advantage (another
being that other scientists can learn from your exchange of knowledge; yet
another one being that you are less likely to hit a week when the other
person is absent; there are many, many more advantages to open
communications).
