I haven't looked into the details, but thought this kind of thing would be super low cost, and fun too:

With some thinking you might even be able to control it using the TTL (I believe 3V) from a serial LPT port if you have one.

Hi,

I am using an argon laser that only has a manual shutter, and so I'm having problems with photobleaching. Could anybody recommend a low-cost shutter that I could use to reduce bleaching in between stacks?
