<div>Hello Kevin,</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>back when the original version was written, the MacBook Pro was a good choice, due to it’s FireWire connector. </div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Nowadays, if you are not in other ways committed to the Mac ecosystem, I would very much recommend _not_ to use a Mac as an acquisition machine at all, as the Mac hardware at the moment is pretty overpriced — you get much better specs with a “normal” notebook. If you are not aiming for a transportable system, I would even recommend against a notebook at all, as the money would be better invested in having faster/more disk/SSD storage, or a better graphics card for postprocessing.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have more questions :-)</div>

<div>We have decided to build a SPIM using almost the exact specs that are published in the wiki.</div>
<div>The example from the wiki used a MacBook Pro laptop running windows so that the firewire port could be utilized. It seems that most new cameras use USB ports with an option of some proprietary connector like cameralink for faster acquisition. in fact, none of the cameras we are considering use firewire. </div>
<div>Isn't it more straightforward to just use a PC laptop and run the camera through USB? </div>
